The State of Homeland Security 2007

Abstract

On March 1, 2007, the Department of Homeland Security celebrated its fourth anniversary. More than 170,000 employees from twenty-two agencies were brought together to prevent and deter terrorist attacks and protect against and respond to threats and hazards to the Nation. On February 12, 2007, the House of Representatives, and later the Senate, passed resolutions recognizing and honoring the employees of the Department for their efforts and contributions to protect and secure the Nation. Despite the valiant efforts of the employees at the Department, there are troublina sians that the Department's leadership is critically challenged with regard to executing the basics of strategic planning and organizational planning, financial management, integration and coordination.
