A New Synthesis of Porphyrins with Extended Conjugation and their Photophysics

Abstract

The contractor investigated the synthesis and characteristics of highly conjugated porphyrins, with the purpose to relate molecular structure to material properties. These molecules useful non-linear optical and optoelectronic properties. The contractor used a synthesis method based on the retro Diels-Alder reaction of porphyrins fused with bicyclo[2.2.2]octadiene units. This yields a new series of conjugated porphyrins that are difficult to be prepared by any other methods.
