Calcium Cyanamide from Hydrogen Cyanide and Lime

Abstract

A paper by Franck and Heiman in "Zeitschfrift fur angewandte and Chemie, 1931" 372, claims high yield of Calcium Cyanamide from the reaction CaO + 2HCN (arrow) CaCN(2) + CO + H(2). It was decided to repeat their work from the viewpoint of establishing a possible economical large scale process but omitting nitrogen as a carrier gas for the HCN.
