Abrasion Resistance Evaluation Method for High-Density Polyethylene Jackets Used on Small Diameter Submarine Cables

Abstract

A standard off-the-shelf Taber Abraser instrument is used to quantify the abrasive wear resistance of high-density polyethylene jackets on small diameter submarine cables. The procedures developed and used resulted in reliable and repeatable data and form the basis for an evaluation method of abrasive wear resistance. The wear rates of HDPE cable jacket and flat sheet specimens were compared.
