Education Industry, 2006

Abstract

The education industry is vital to United States (U.S.) national security as it is largely responsible for generating the human capital necessary to effectively integrate the various instruments of power to promote U.S. national interests. An educated workforce and citizenry contribute to the economic and political well being of our democracy. The U.S. education system has been the cornerstone of the world s largest and most powerful middle class, capable of sustaining the world s highest per capita Gross Domestic Product. The U.S. education system is currently producing mixed results within its mission of ensuring that the U.S. workforce is able to maintain its high standards of living and technological edge in a rapidly growing, globalized, and competitive environment.
