Abstract

The events of September II, 2001, set in motion a revolution in the field of security and security-related research The use of biometrics for the purpose of ascertaining an individual's unique characteristics is not a new idea but the September II, 2001, terrorist attacks upon the United States helped to propel the industry into the front lines of the Global War on Terrorism Due to the great potential for the exposure of private, individual information to would be criminals, the industry and the government are now facing a myriad of questions regarding societal and ethical implications associated with the widespread use of this technology
