Abstract
"Transforming the Future of Business Processes" is an interview with Elizabeth McGrath, Principal DUSD for Business Transformation -- DoD's leader in implementing the department's continuous process improvement/Lean Six Sigma efforts talks about business transformation efforts. "Enlisting Lean Six Sigma in the Army Acquisition Process," by Leon Smith, et al. -- The Army is using Lean Six Sigma to standardize financial processes and reduce cycle time. "Avoiding the 'Army of Professional Amateurs' Paradox," by Doug McCallum -- DoD experts know their jobs, then may be reassigned and have to learn other jobs from scratch. By developing effective knowledge management as a core leader competency, DoD can end this paradox of employing professional amateurs. "Opportunity Management," by Edmund H. Conrow, et al. -- A deeper examination of OM indicates a number of limitations and concerns that may not only lessen its potential effectiveness, but may cause more problems than are solved. "Business Systems Modernization," by David J. Falvey, et al. -- The program management office, the designated operational test agency, and the Office of the Director, Operational Test and Evaluation formed a successful partnership that brought the Business Systems Modernization to operational form. "Krog's New Weapon," by Maj. Dan Ward, et al. -- Join Krog as he explores problems with weapon systems designs and evokes the power of AWESOME. "The Abiding Cultural Problem," by Gary E. Christle -- Despite numerous studies conducted on the defense acquisition process, and calls for change, there has been no real progress in improving the acquisition process. There needs to be better trust and accountability and a new business model that includes an annual operating plan. "How Healthy is Your Project?" by Wayne Turk -- The author provides tips on how a good project management assessment should proceed.
