AIRIS Wide Area Detection System

Abstract

The AIRIS Wide Area Detection System was employed, in both airborne and ground-based configurations, to detect chemical and biological agent stimulant releases during the Technology Readiness Evaluations conducted at Dugway Proving Grounds from 22-26 July 2002. Airborne observations were conducted from a gyro-stabilized pointing system mounted on a UH-1 helicopter and conducted at ranges up to ~ 7 km and altitudes to 1600 ft in conjunction with the Redstone Technical Test Center. Ground-based observations were made at ranges between 1 and 5 km. The sensors comprised 64 x 64 element HgCdTe detector arrays coupled to AIRIS tunable filters resulting in a system with nominal 10 cm-1 spectral resolution and a 0.8 milliradian IFOV.
