Abstract
According to the Administration, U.S. aid for border security, counternarcotics control, democratization, health, education, and economic growth are key to improving Tajikistan's role as a bulwark against the regional threats of terrorism and drugs. This report outlines challenges faced by Tajikistan since its 5-year civil war ended in 1997. It discusses U.S. policy and assistance. Basic facts and biographical information are provided. This report discusses U.S. policy toward Tajikistan, Tajikistan's contributions to the campaign against terrorism, its foreign policy and defense, the Tajik civil war, and political and economic developments.
