Interactions Between Wetlands and Tidal Inlets

Abstract

This Coastal and Hydraulics Engineering Technical Note (CHETN) presents numerical simulations investigating how the loss of wetlands in estuaries modifies tidal processes in inlet navigation channels. The implications for wetland loss and construction of wetlands to tidal inlets and navigation channels are discussed, and hypotheses are presented for possible engineering approaches to mitigate wetland loss and improve the sedimentary sustainability of constructed wetlands.
