Roadmap for the Hypersonics Programs of the Department of Defense

Abstract

The John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007 Pub L No 109-364 directs the Secretary of Defense to establish within the Office of the Secretary of Defense a Joint Technology Office on Hypersonics (JTOH). Major functions of the JTOH specified in the NDAA language include the following: Coordinate and integrate current and future research, development, test, and evaluation programs and system demonstration programs of the Defense on hypersonics; Develop, and every two years revise, a roadmap for the hypersonics programs of the Department of Defense; Approve demonstration programs on hypersonic systems; [Coordination] with the programs on hypersonics of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration; Conduct on an annual basis a review of the funding available for research, development, test, and evaluation and demonstration programs within the Department of Defense for hypersonics... to determine whether or not such finding is consistent with the roadmap developed The Report contains the FY2008 roadmap for the Hypersonics Programs of the Department of Defense and leveraged programs of the National Aeronautics & Space Administration's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate The Roadmap herein was developed by Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Science and Technology with representatives from the DoD Military Departments/Defense Agencies and NASA.
