The Navy's New Recruiting Challenge - Find Recruits That Can Speak a Little Pashtu!

Abstract

A presentation on the Navy's goal to recruit Sailors who can speak various foreign languages and strategies to recruit, equip and deploy Sailors with these language skills. What incentives will be required to attract them to join and also to channel them into hard to fill ratings in the "danger zones" of some of the most difficult regions of the world? This presentation looks at the potential supply by (1) forecasting of potential recruits given the constraints of the population supply in the required skills; and (2) determining the efficient mechanisms by which field recruiters can efficiently identify, process, and access recruits with these language skills onto Active duty.
