Comparative Tests on Redux and Araldite Metal Adhesives

Abstract

The tests were carried out to evaluate Redux K6 and Araldite Type 1 as adhesives for aluminium alloys under the various conditions likely to be encountered during the life of bonded structures. Lap joint test specimens were made and supplied by Percival Aircraft Ltd., who also shared the testing with Aluminium Laboratories Ltd., and Chemistry Dept., R.A.E. The following results are given: shear strength at -60 deg, 20 deg and 100 deg C, effect of double curing, effect of gauge on shear strength, effect of ageing at room temperature and 70 deg C, corrosion, effect of immersion in various aircraft fluids, effect of cyclic temperature and humidity conditions and fatigue.
