An Overview of the United States Intelligence Community for the 111th Congress
Abstract
The Director of National Intelligence (DNI) serves as the head of the Intelligence Community (IC) and is the principal advisor to the President, the National Security Council (NSC), and the Homeland Security Council (HSC) for intelligence matters related to national security. Also, the Director oversees and directs the implementation of the National Intelligence Program. The President appoints the DNI and the Principal Deputy Director with the advice and consent of the Senate. This report presents organizational profiles of the U.S. Intelligence Community. The following organizations are profiled: Office of the Director of National Intelligence; Central Intelligence Agency; Defense Intelligence Agency; Department of Justice, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation; National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency; National Reconnaissance Office; National Security Agency; Department of Justice, including the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Office of National Security Intelligence; Department of Energy, including the Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence; Department of Homeland Security, including the Office of Intelligence & Analysis; Department of State, including the Bureau of Intelligence and Research; Department of the Treasury, including the Office of Intelligence and Analysis; United States Army; United States Navy; United States Air Force; United States Marine Corps; and United States Coast Guard. The report concludes with a directory of Intelligence Community Legislative Affairs Offices.
