Shear Stress Estimates for Combined Wave and Surge Overtopping at Earthen Levees

Abstract

The Coastal and Hydraulics Engineering Technical Note (CHETN) described herein provides empirical equations for estimating shear stresses on the land-side slope of earthen levees resulting from the combination of storm surge steady overflow and unsteady overtopping of irregular waves. A worked example provides guidance on application of the empirical equations.s
