Numerical Prediction of Buckling in Ship Panel Structures

Abstract

Q-WELD(TM), a shell-element-based numerical module was used to effectively predict welding-induced distortions. The results of Q-WELD(TM) were validated by comparison with a series of physical test panels. Eigenvalue analyses were performed to evaluate the buckling propensity of each test panel with and without transient thermal tensioning.
