Laboratory for Computational Cultural Dynamics

Abstract

This report summarizes the accomplishments of the Laboratory for Computational Cultural Dynamics (LCCD) from May 2005 through May 2008. LCCD is located within the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS). The purpose of the laboratory is to develop the theory and algorithms required for tools to support decision making in cultural contexts. Information is presented in the following topic areas: Extracting Cultural Contextual Data; Opinion Analysis; Building Cultural Databases; Learning Behavioral Models in the Presence of Noise; Synthesis of Strategies from Interaction Traces; Workshops and Conferences Initiated, including a Workshop on Decision Making in Adversarial Domains and the First International Conference on Computational Cultural Dynamics; and Publications Published during the Reporting Period.
