Abstract

This report covers research on the subject of generalized likelihood radio test packet data detectors. The research led to the design of a novel generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT)-type packet-data detectors for general multi-access/multi-user digital communication systems and analytical performance evaluation tools for finite data packet sizes. Developed for the known channel case was a coherent GLRT packet-data detector, while for the unknown channel case two detectors were developed. For the unknown channel case a coherent pilot assisted GLRT packet-data detector and a differential phase-shift-keying (DPSK) GLRT packet-data detector. Efficient suboptimum implementations of the above schemes that exhibit complexity linear in the packet size were also considered. Simulation studied evaluated the performance of the proposed schemes in the context of packet-data code division multiple access (CDMA) communications.
