Factors of Safety for Richardson Extrapolation for Industrial Applications

Abstract

Improved factors of safety for quantitative estimates for grid and time convergence uncertainties for CFD solutions are proposed for situations when Richardson extrapolation estimated order of accuracy P(sub k) is larger than the theoretical order of accuracy P(sub k(th)) and correction factor 1<C(sub k)<2. The improved uncertainty estimates are shown to provide more reasonable intervals of uncertainty for P(sub k) > P(sub k(th)) (1<C(sub k)<2).
