U.S. Policy in Ukraine

Abstract

It is time to review and update the U.S. policy in Ukraine. Ukraine is experiencing a period of major turbulence with the economic situation and the dynamic political realignment. The recent Russian actions in Georgia have highlighted the potentially volatile situation in Crimes and emphasize the need to review U.S. policy now. The revised policy with Ukraine needs to include increased international integration, improved economic ties and a shift away from the push for a NATO Membership Action Plan. The policy development needs to include a review of policy conducted together with the other countries in the region and must be developed with an understanding of how Russia impacts Ukraine and the region.
