Official Guard and Reserve Manpower Strengths and Statistics. FY 1999 Summary

Abstract

The Official Guard and Reserve Manpower Strengths and Statistics is published annually by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. It is produced to display a wide range of data drawn from the Reserve Components Common Personnel Data System (RCCPDS) which is maintained by the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) located in Monterey, CA and Arlington, VA. Over two million records maintained in RCCPDS are updated monthly by the various Reserve components. The record layout in RCCPDS consists of 102 data fields, providing a comprehensive personnel database that is used for personnel reporting and analysis throughout the Department of Defense. Since July 1975, RCCPDS has been the official source for Reserve component end strength reporting and the official source of accession, loss, and reenlistment information since 1976. This report contains five sections. The first section is a recapitulation of the end strength numbers and profile of the Reserve components, represented in various "A" reports. The second section consists of the "G" reports, providing accession information. The summary and profiles of Selected Reserve losses make up the third section, designated by the "L" reports. The "M" and "X" reports in the fourth section provide reenlistment and continuation data. The final section provides information on retired Reservists depicted in three "V" reports. The information summarized in this report reflects the official Department of Defense position and forms the basis for manpower planning, strength accounting and budgeting through the Department.
