Abstract

This issue of The Coast Artillery Journal contains the following articles: "Adjustment of Fire," by Brigadier General R. E. Callan, U.S. Army; "The Progress of the National Guard," by Major General G. C. Rickards, U.S. Army, Chief of Militia Bureau; "Pistols and Pistol Shooting," by Major W. D. Frazer, C.A.C.; and "Coastal Operations," by Major Meade Wildrick, C.A.C. The remainder of the issue contains editorials on the importance of fire adjustment, the term "Fixed Defenses" is taboo, and the lack of adequate defenses for Pacific Coast ports; Coast Artillery Board notes; Bulletin Board, including a report on the numbers and distribution of Coast Artillery officers; Professional notes on studies of the motion of projectiles, the .50-caliber machine gun, employment of Hertzian Waves for stopping airplanes in flight, conservation of helium, and development of antiaircraft guns; and book reviews.
