Afghanistan and Stability in Central Asia

Abstract

Afghanistan has suffered from three decades of war. This paper will address the background leading to the current situation in Afghanistan, the geopolitical significance of Afghanistan, and its linkage with Central and South Asia. This paper will take an in-depth look at Afghanistan's connection with terrorism, and the current threats and challenges for the security situation in Afghanistan. The paper will close by capturing successes within Afghanistan to date and by identifying requirements for the future, in order to foster continued growth and development of the country.
