Vapor-Phase Infrared Absorptivity Coefficient of Pinacolyl Methylphosphonofluoridate

Abstract

We measured the vapor-phase absorptivity coefficient of pinacolyl methylphosphonofluoridate, a chemical warfare agent, (GD, Soman) in the mid-infrared (IR) (4000-550 cm"') at a spectral resolution of 0.125 cm"1. The GD used in the feedstock was purified by fractional distillation and analyzed by nuclear magnetic resonance, gas chromatography (GC)-mass spectrometry, and GC-IR to verify its purity. We describe the experimental method used to acquire the individual spectra that were used to produce the composite spectrum, summarize the statistical uncertainties in the data, and provide a comparison to similar data from another laboratory.
