Defense Explosives Safety Mishap Analysis Module (ESMAM) Demonstration

Abstract

The ESMAM is an automated system designed to support the Defense Explosives Safety Management Suite (DESMS). It is being developed by the U.S. Army Technical Center for Explosives Safety USATCES) of the Defense Ammunition Center (DAC), Savanna, IL as part of the Explosives Safety Information Data Base (ESIDB). The ESMAM explosives mishap data is only available to authorized military or civilian Department of Defense (DOD) personnel. The Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Environmental Security (DUSD(ES) is responsible for identifying migration systems to support the Department of Defense Explosives Safety Board (DDESB) and the five sub-activities comprising the explosives safety function. The DDESB and the Defense Environmental Security Corporate Information Management (DESCIM) Program Management Office (PMO) identified systems to provide comprehensive support to the DESMS. A Beta Test for the ESMAM was hosted by this office 12-13 May 98. Users and headquarters representatives from each service and DLA attended the training session to learn how the prototype system works and to determine the focus and scope of the ESMAM development effort. Enhancements and improvements were made to the ESMAM from the Beta Test comments made by the attendees.
