Examination of Sedimentation in Riparian Areas at Ft. Benning Military Installation, Georgia

Abstract

Our objectives were to examine the following aspects of the legacy sediment question at Ft. Benning: (1) the depth of historic sediment on the floodplains of Bonham Creek and Sally Branch; (2) recent (since 1964) sedimentation rates and sources using Ce137 isotope analysis; (3) recent (last 2-3 decades) sedimentation rates using a dendrogeomorphic approach; (4) current export near new stream crossings on both streams; and (5) amounts of historic sediment within stream beds.
