A Critical Eye on Distributed Operations

Abstract

Distributed Operations (DO) is a Marine Corps warfighting concept that exhibits great potential for future warfighting capabilities. The concept is one of several reasons why the Marine Corps is motivated to transform to meet the challenges presented in the ever-changing environment of warfare and to maximize effectiveness in the ongoing global war on terrorism (GWOT). This paper presents a critical analysis of DO to assist in further concept development using the parameters of the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS). Through proper concept development and assimilation, the Marine Corps will gain the ability to successfully conduct DO in future conflicts.
