Calibrated Orbiting Object Project (COOP) Code Tip Heater Installation and Characterization

Abstract

In this experiment, heaters were installed inside the Calibrated Orbiting Object Project (COOP) cone tip for the purpose of controlling the temperature of the cone tip on orbit. Heater performance characterization was accomplished for two different heater configurations and the differences in performance are discussed. Heater performance was characterized by measuring the temperature of the tip at various current set points and comparing these to those predicted by a one-dimensional conductive heat transfer model.
