Temperature Compensated Loading Curves for the 7.62 x 54R Armor Piercing Incendiary (API) Round

Abstract

This report documents the effort to determine what variables are statistically significant in determining the velocity of the 7.62-millimeter X 54R armor piercing incendiary (API) round. The Design of Experiments approach to testing was used for this study. After the determination of the statistically significant variables is made, loading curves are generated taking into account these variables to achieve the desired velocity. The knowledge gained from this study will provide Weapons Survivability Laboratory (WSL) firing officers with the ability to shoot the 7.62 x 54R with accuracy in velocity and repeatability from shot-to-shot.
