A Description of Scutomyia, a Subgenus Resurrected from the Albolineatus Group of the Genus Aedes (Diptera: Culicidae)

Abstract

Scutomyia Theobald is resurrected as a subgenus of the genus Aedes Meigen and the nine species previously assigned to the Albolineatus Group of the subgenus Stegomyia Theobald are included. The subgenus is described, discussed and compared to other subgenera. Its distribution and bionomics are given. Two species groups are proposed for Scutomyia. A table provides current status of descriptions and illustrations for all included species.
