Optimization of Neuronal-Computer Interface

Abstract

Murine cortical neurons were cultured via standard methodologies on multi-electrode arrays, which interfaced with MatLab software, Cultures displayed synchronous, spontaneous synaptic signals, indicating that despite the apparent random connectivity inherent in synaptogenesis in dissociated neuronal cultures, neurons retain the ability to transmit information in an organized manner. Thinner cultures displayed rapid, bipolar, high-amplitude individual spontaneous signals ("spikes") with no apparent temporal regularity.
