Defense: FY2006 Authorization and Appropriations
Abstract
This report is a guide to one of the 13 regular appropriations bills that Congress considers each year. It is designed to supplement the information provided by the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Defense. It summarizes the status of the bill, its scope, major issues, funding levels, and related congressional activity, and is updated as events warrant. The report lists the key CRS staff relevant to the issues covered and related CRS products. On June 20, the House passed its version of the FY2006 defense appropriations bill (H.R. 2863) by a vote of 398-19. Earlier, on May 25, the House approved its version of the FY2006 defense authorization (H.R. 1815), and on May 12, the Senate Armed Services Committee marked up its version of the bill (S. 1042), though floor action has not yet been scheduled.
