40 Years of AEDC Development, Evolution and Application of Numerical Simulations for Integrated Test and Evaluation of Turbine Engine Turbomachinery Operability Issues

Abstract

AEDC has invested in the full spectrum of compression system analysis simulations. The main emphasis of this report is to provide an overview and specific examples of the compression system codes developed over the last 40 years at AEDC and how they may benefit the test and evaluation capability. A historical perspective of the code development and applications are presented to provide the reader with a sense of continuity between the development process and the application process. Code applications are presented to provide the reader with a sense of what can be done with each of the codes and when to use them and at what fidelity. Finally, the technical approach is presented to provide the reader with a detailed explanation of how each code works and the basic assumptions.
