The Future of Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO)

Abstract

Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) provides the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Commander a liaison capability in order to plan, coordinate, and conduct terminal control of fires in support of Joint, Allied, and Coalition forces operating within or adjacent to MAGTF battlespace. Since being reactivated in 2003, the active duty ANGLICOs continue to quietly and professionally support Overseas Contingency Operations (formerly the Global War on Terror). Working exclusively with many Joint, Allied, and Coalition forces, these units know and understand the capabilities ANGLICO brings to the fight. Unfortunately, this is not the case for a large part of the Marine Corps. 14. ABSTRACT In an attempt to provide some clarity on the unique role ANGLICO plays as part of the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF), and to shed some light on several key issues/concerns, the intent of this paper is twofold. First, provide a review of the mission, organization and concept of employment for ANGLICO, and second, to illustrate a number of the institutional challenges facing the organization.
