Ambivalent Warfare: The Tactical Doctrine of the AEF in World War I

Abstract

This article intends to offer evidence to support the conclusion that the tactical doctrine of the AEF was fraught with inconsistencies. Such inconsistencies resulted in an army not fully prepared for the combat it faced on the Western Front.
