SAM, The SOR Atmospheric Monitor (Post Print)

Abstract

We describe the Starfire Optical Range Atmospheric Monitor (SAM). SAM is designed to measure the Fried coherence length, the Greenwood frequency, and the isoplanatic angel even in relatively poor conditions with high accuracy approximately 10% with a single frame of data. In addition, since SAM is based on Shack-Hartmann wave front sensors, more sophisticated statistics about the wave front and the atmosphere should be able to be recovered from the data with additional processing.
