The Promise of Precision

Abstract

Despite their successes, precision weapons, like strategic airpower and nuclear weapons before them, do not fulfill the promise of ensuring easy victory. No matter the power of technology or the precision of weapons, humanity, as ever, will prove resilient in the face of his enemy's reported dominance. This paper contends that recent history reconfirms the need for a balanced military, consisting of different services and arms, capable of operating in all levels of war and considering precision weapons as just one of many options. This paper also recommends changes necessary to more effectively use precision weapons.
