Observations on Recent Trends in Armored Forces

Abstract

To provide initial insights about how several ground forces other than the U.S. Army are viewing the utility of armored fighting vehicles in irregular and hybrid warfare environments. A team from RAND Arroyo Center is in the early stages of research on a project for the G-8 titled "An Army for Full Spectrum Operations: Lessons from Irregular Wars." One of the issues under examination is how various militaries view the utility of heavy forces in IW and hybrid warfare environments. This paper describes initial findings, which will be developed further as the project proceeds.
