The Challenge for the Political Analyst

Abstract

Over thirty years as a political analyst and manager of analysts has convinced me that it is harder for political, leadership, and country analysts 10 he taken seriously by the policymaking audience than economic or scientific analysts, to name but two. There are good reasons why this is the case and they have nothing to do with the expertise of political analysis, their integrity, or the complexity of the issues involved. Rather, it is the nature of the beast-politics-that makes policymakers more skeptical of what political analysis can offer and adds to the credibility burden that all analysts share.
