Joint Experimentation: A Necessity for Future War

Abstract

We are told that necessity is the mother of invention. But invention can be the mother of necessity when it comes to military adaptation to technological advances. New technologies in the hands of an enemy may require either adjustment or accepting defeat. They can also generate political pressure for adoption and innovation. Due to the demands of the information revolution and the goals set forth in Joint Vision 2010, the U.S. military again confronts the need to adapt.
