A Metric for Comparing Acoustic Transmission Loss Curves

Abstract

A metric is presented for quantifying the difference between two acoustic transmission loss curves. This allows a fast, but more importantly, consistent way to determine how well two underwater acoustic transmission loss curves compare in terms of their end use. Two methods are proposed for different applications, the first involves comparing only the curves themselves and the second involves use of a figure of merit to compare the curves as they apply to an end performance estimate.
