T2 Laboratories Explosion Damage Assessment

Abstract

An explosion at T2 Laboratories Inc. in Jacksonville, Florida occurred at approximately 1:30 pm on December 19, 2007. The explosion killed four T2 employees and injured 32 workers at T2 and surrounding businesses. Debris from the reactor, which was the source of the explosion, was found up to one mile away, and the explosion damaged buildings within one quarter mile of the facility. ABSG Consulting Inc. (ABS Consulting) was contracted by the U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) to 1) conduct a site survey to document blast related structural damage, 2) perform analysis to estimate explosion energy, and 3) develop overpressure and impulse contour maps.
