North Korean Military Forces. A Reference Summary of their History, Operational and Tactical Practices

Abstract

Struggles between rival kingdoms for domination of the peninsula occasionally occurred and armed factions contended over dynastic succession. More serious foreign incursions included those of the Chinese in the second century B.C., the Mongols in the thirteenth century A.D., the Japanese at the end of the sixteenth century, and the Manchus in the mid-seventeenth century. However, none of these experiences provided Koreans with an enduring military tradition.
