The Advance on Rome of the Fifth Army
Abstract
This is the chronicle of a historic battle. Reading it one forgets the long and torturous winter in the hills near the GARIGL1ANO, the tribula tions connected with the assault on the VERDUN-like position of CASSINO, the agony of months in the island which was the ANZIO Beachhead. One remembers only the glory which accrued to the Fifth Army for its tremendous tactical successes, its destruction of enemy personnel and materiel, its capture of the first enemy capitol city, ROME.
