Sea-Based X-Band (SBX) Radar Vessel Maintenance and Repair. Draft Environmental Assessment

Abstract

The Missile Defense Agency prepared this Environmental Assessment (EA) to evaluate the environmental consequences of mooring the SBX Radar Vessel at one of the two contingency locations for the inspection, maintenance, and repair activities. The Proposed Action of the EA is to perform required maintenance of the SBX Radar Vessel thrusters and other scheduled general maintenance activities at a deep-water naval facility capable of providing support. The facility must have a minimum water depth of 50 feet. The Proposed Action is needed as a contingency in the event that Todd Pacific Shipyards is not available to perform required maintenance activities. The two contingency locations are Naval Station Everett, Everett, Washington and Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, California.
