Air Land Sea Bulletin. Issue Number 2011-1, January 2011

Abstract

The theme of this ALSB, "Humanitarian Assistance," gives us a chance to look at a mission area not typically associated with the military. These articles showcase the ingenuity, adaptability, and flexibility of the men and women of the US Armed Forces and how their efforts saved lives and provided necessary assistance. Over a year ago, a devastating earthquake struck Haiti killing hundreds of thousands, and leaving millions without necessities. According to US Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM), at the peak level, 22,268 military personnel were providing humanitarian assistance/disaster relief (HA/DR) to Haiti. It is therefore, no coincidence most of our articles deal with Operation UNIFIED RESPONSE.
