Abstract

This report describes and documents the purposes, history, current status, and likely future of capabilities used to design, develop, and maintain computer-mediated environments for education and training. It includes sections on the rapid development of simulations by local commands; development of training simulations for equipment operation, maintenance, and deployment; semi-automated generation of instructional material; and peer techniques using Web 2.0 technologies. Finally, it provides a description and discussion of 26 issues to consider in selecting authoring capabilities. The findings and recommendations of this report are based on the work of representatives from nine NATO countries and Finland.
