Army Physical Disability Evaluation System: Time for an Overhaul, Not an Analysis

Abstract

The research project will address how current personnel policies are transforming the Selected Reserves into a force that cannot deploy as a combat unit due to the level of non-deployable soldiers within its ranks. The paper will analyze the inadequacies of the current Soldier Readiness Processing and the subsequent disposition of Selected Reserve soldiers upon it being determined that the soldier has a profile greater than a P2 at both the Mobilization Processing Stations and upon redeployment back to the States. The paper will further analyze the practical issues that face a Reserve Component Soldier upon being classified as non deployable and the inequities between the active and reserve forces. The paper will in a general nature analyze the study of core issues as they pertain to the Reserve Forces and that most of the recommendations offered by these studies are either of little practical benefit to the Reserve Soldier and/or unlikely to occur due to lack of medical personnel in the Reserve Component. In conclusion the paper will attempt to offer a realistic and practical solution to the problem of Non-Deployable Soldiers that are filling the ranks of the Selected Reserve at an alarming rate.
