Analysis of Transient and Steady State Neutral Flows in a Field Reversed Configuration Thruster

Abstract

A combined Navier-Stokes/DSMC approach is used to compute a neutral injection into a field reversed configuration thruster. Transient flow is studied for different thruster geometries, gases, and chamber conditions. Flow uniformity inside the diverging conical nozzle is analyzed for both transient and steady state thruster operations.
