Where Do You Think You're Going with That? Challenges for Hazardous Material Management in Europe

Abstract

This talk will provide an update on the European Command Hazardous Material Management Program (EUCOM HMMP). A brief introduction will include the importance of guidance harmonization and standardization for U.S. Forces in Europe, along with Article II, Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) compliance. The presentation will provide an overview of HMMP hazard communication (HazCom)/employer duties and movement control of hazardous material (HazMat) for improved risk management. Supply chain impacts of implementing the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals and European Union (EU) regulations will be discussed. Finally, EUCOM's role in safeguarding military readiness as outlined in DoD's Strategic Plan for the EU Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACh) will be described.
